Question:

Downloading pics to computer from a Canon EOS 20D?

I recently posted about recieving a Canon 20D from my friend who has gotten out of photography. She gave me a digital USB cable to upload the pics, but not much else. I tried plugging the camera in but my computer was unable to find the driver. So I went online to the canon website and downloaded the proper driver. My computer makes a chime when I plug the camera in and turn it on, but still not much else.

I can't find the camera on my computer or anywhere. How am I supposed to upload my pictures? Help please!

  1. See if your friend has the disk that came with the camera. That should have the proper software for it.

If not, you might want to try using a card reader... you can get them at any camera store or Walmart or Best Buy.

  2. When you downloaded the driver, did you properly install it? Have you retried rebooting the computer.

Silly computers, never doing what you want them to!

  3. You will have to do what most of us have done long ago.  Buy a USB card reader and copy your images from your memory card to your computer (under $10).

Now to your specific camera.  My Canon shooting colleagues tell me that they have to either use a card reader or the software that came with their Canon cameras in order to download images from the actual camera.  This is problematic when they need to copy image files to a different computer while on assignment.  Other brand cameras are seen by the computer as a removable drive.
