Downloading video on youtube?

Question

I have a long video (about 5 minutes) on a recordable dvd that I want to put on youtube. What's the best way to get it on my computer and then onto youtube without creating a monstrously huge file? My computer runs on XP and has windows media and ulead video studio. I want to keep the file size as small as possible.

I am not sure if you can save the project to other formats with Windows Movie Maker, but you may try to see if there if other formats. But you can burn the .msdvd to dvd disk first, and then use dvd ripping software to rip the dvd into wmv, mp4 or other formats for youtube.

It is recommend that you upload the video in MP4 format, with 320x240 resolution, and MP3 audio with 30 frames per second and 10-minute time limit.

You may try Moyea dvd ripper for the conversion to mp4, and trim the video to be 10 minutes in the “Customize” window. To set the resolution, you can choose the chapter you want and click on “Settings” button. Choose 320x240 in the field for Video Size. Click “OK” to save the changes. Then click the big start button to convert the checked chapters or titles.

You can just google or yahoo "Moyea DVD Ripper" to download the free trial version.

If you want to get a small file size without KILLING the video and audio quality, might I suggest using the Windows Movie Maker that is included with your Windows XP?

You will need to download the video to your computer, but after you have rendered it with WMM it should be a fraction of the size with not much of a loss in quality. As an added bonus, the finished file will be in a MPEG-4 format which would make uploading to YouTube much easier.
