  1. You can not choose an apartment online.  The photos all look perfect but they don't represent what you are really going to get.  You have to talk to the neighbors; if they are unhappy, they will tell you.  And a barking dog or screaming couple are more important to your sanity than if the apartment is nice.

Downtown Phoenix is deserted at night.  If you go out, you will be the only ones not driving. Except for Friday and Saturday night when 7th Street is filled with people promenading up and down the street.

Look at some apartments near Arcadia.  54th Street and Camelback. /

  2. Downtown Phoenix is an up and coming place. There is a new ASU campus and a lot of new shops and restaurants. Also it's very convenient for the light rail which is going to start running soon.Take the same precautions against crime that you would anywhere else, and you should be fine.

  3. That complex isn't bad at all but the area around it is.

  4. The apartments are in downtown Phoenix.

  5. too downtown for my taste, but if you have a job down there, it might be alright.

the area does pretty much shut down in the evening, though, unless there is a game or a big concert

  6. The area you are looking into is really hit and miss. Like most spots in AZ there are good pockets in bad neighborhoods and the reverse as well. Have you considered going a bit north around Camelback? It's about 10 minutes away from the apartments you are looking at, but the area is certainly a bit more stable. Anywhere downtown you will typically find a slightly larger homeless population.
