Dr Finley, the one with obvious claims in Inox Kitchens To Dine For Handicap at Lingfield
Lydia Pearce’s 5-year-old speedy gelding, Dr Finley, has a tradition of producing excellent results in summer. By prevailing at Thirsk earlier this month, the son of Dr Fong further improved his handicap record. His latest win was solid enough to believe
that he can follow up.
The going is good to firm, which is not of Our Folly’s choice. Stuart Kittow’s charge likes slower ground, but is still regarded as the biggest threat to Dr Finley in the Inox Kitchens To Dine For Handicap, taking place at Lingfield on Thursday, August 30th.
The class 5 meeting has attracted 10 entries, and carries a cash prize worth £2,727. The 2-mile event is scheduled to get underway at 15:30 GMT.
Dr Finley looked a bit rusty on his seasonal debut at Folkestone in June. Despite a decent start, he was well beaten in the middle stages and as a result, could only secure the fifth place in the Homeleigh Timber And Building Supplies Handicap.
He learnt a good lesson from his trouncing, and presented a far better show the following month. The New County Traffic Management Handicap saw him missing the gold medal only by half a length.
Bred by Darley, the Killarney Glen-owned kept progressing, and registered his first victory of the season at Thirsk. In the hands of Simon Pearce, the 13-5 favourite faced a hard competition, but did well inside the final furlong to seize the first place
by a short head’s distance in the Racing Again Next Monday - 20th August Handicap.
Although the victory was not a cosy one, it would have boosted up his confidence to a massive extent. Another plus for Dr Finley is that most of his opponents are currently struggling for form.
Our Folly showed plenty of improvement early in the season, but the conditions are unlikely to suit him this time. There is no moisture in Lingfield’s surface, and it would help Dr Finley’s cause. Only some major mistakes can prevent the Lydia Pearce-trained
from clinching his second consecutive win this season. Good luck to all the runners.
