  1. Yes they are ferret safe.

Some ferrets really enjoy packing peanuts and some... not so much. It's all a matter of individual ferret taste. This is one of my little guys who just loved his peanuts, and one of the reasons why it's important they be starch... see him trying to eat the little thing.

Dr. Foster & Smith (formerly The Ferret Store) has some great ferrety items and I would encorage anyone to shop with them. One thing about the packing peanuts though is that it is just that, a plain cardboard box with packing peanuts, you can often buy these at your post office as well, just be sure to ask for the starch peanuts and not styrofoam.

Stinkweasels, another ferret online store, actually ships their products in a box packed with these peanuts. If you do your shopping online it might be worth it to check out Stinkweasels, as with a couple orders you'll find you'll have enough peanuts to fill your own dig box and won't have actually bought the peanuts themselves but rather bought your regular items (like Ferretone) and they came with free ferret safe peanuts.

    :-)
