Dr. Watson comments about whites being more intelligent than blacks is causing a lot of contravery. Dr. Watson is a Nobel Prize winning scientist who got the prize for discovering the makeup of DNA.

If the Nobel Prize committee can give a prize to Al Gore for his outrageous findings on global warming, should they give another one to Dr. Watson for his new discovery?

  1. This isn't a new discovery, but rather his repeated comments are not welcome.  Sometimes science isn't fun.  Several years ago, a Canadian brain examiner (can't think of the medical term for the position) determined that men have certain traits that give them a higher IQ.  This researcher was a female too, and she stood by her research.  Now, this was not to say men are smarter than women, but loosely interpreted you could say her results indicated that.  More in-depth analysis showed that types of intelligence differed, and women had a different type that wasn't often tested for.  She was repeatedly criticized for her comments too.

Watson's probably a smart guy, and the goal of scientific research isn't specifically to determine nice things.  Sometimes the truth hurts.  Note that I am not supporting the notion that Africans and blacks are dumber, I am not qualified to examine his research, nor have I perused it.  I'd like to believe we are all equal and I will continue to do so.

  2. If Al Gore can get one than anyone can.  I am expecting a call anytime from the Nobel Committee.  Unfortunately any organization that would award prizes to both Al Gore and Jimmy Carter lacks any credibility whatsoever.

  3. Why not? Al Gore got one for doing absolutely nothing

  4. I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, I don't think his personal views should affect how he is regarded as a scientist, but on the other hand I don't like the idea of giving awards to racists.

  5. They canceled his speech for this.  Sounds like censorship to me.

  6. Determining IQ should be on an individual basis, not as an average for an entire race.  I think if he was all that intelligent, he would know that.

  7. Ooh! The fact that Al Gore won the Nobel prize is STILL steaming conservative backsides...wow!

  8. Just one old mans opinion....everyone has one.

  9. Just because he is bright in one area doesn't mean he knows everything.  This whole Race/Intelligence thing is a bunch of hogwash.

Just sit back and take a deep breath.  Think of all the fools you know (I consider Watson one of them).  Think of all the bright people you know.

Bet there are plenty from all races in both categories.  At least I find it that way for me...Of course I am not a Nobel Laureate!

  10. Is your spelling an indication of your "white" intellect???

I'll submit your name and qualifications to the Swedish academy for next year's Nobel prize for bigotry and narrow mindedness...

  11. He's got the most important qualification for an American, he's a Democrat.
