Draft horses?

Question

I recently fell in love with a Percheron rescue gelding who is an absolute gem. But unfortuneatley (sp) he was sold and might be moving to North Carolina. Are there any good draft horse rescues or reliable sellers where I can get a sound, bomb-proof draft horse?

There are draft horse sales in just about every state, and they aren't going for much because of the amount of hay that they eat...Google your state for draft horse sales and you will find more than you can attend...just take an expert with you and go early enough to check out the ones that you are really interested in. They make good riders and if the price of gas gets any higher, we might all be driving a buggy, who knows.

I know this isn't your question, but I don't know you or what your situation is so I thought I'd mention a couple things.  If you keep a draft breed, they can be more of a challenge to your fencing, so that generally you need taller and sturdier fence to keep one.  Also, bigger stalls are needed so they don't become caste.  Some will actually double your feed bill compared to the average horse, some farriers charge more to work on their hooves.  They are wonderful animals and many need rescue, but be sure you can accommodate their particular needs.
