so i got a ticket for spectating in Detroit,MI but there is no such law in Michigan specifically for spectating there is however one for drag racing. but the weird part is i wasnt drag racing. i was parking my car on a side street to watch some drag races. but it gets weirder at the time there wasnt any drag races going on when we got there keep in mind i was there for only 2 minutes and hadn't even got out my car when i was stopped by some cops. the cop gave me a ticket for drag racing with a side note stating that i was spectating only.the ticket states that its a misdemenor. i went to my arraignment and plead not guilty now i need some tips as to how i can get out of getting a misdemenor which carries either $120 fine and/or 90 day jail. i am hoping the cop doesnt show up(in detroit its very common for cops not to show up) any tips or suggestions are greatly needed

heres specifically how drag racing is defined in michigan and it dosent state spectating clearly.

257.626a Drag races; prohibition on public highways; definition; prima facie evidence.

Sec. 626a.

It shall be unlawful for any person to operate any vehicle upon any highway, or any other place open to the general public, including any area designated for the parking of motor vehicles, within this state, in a speed or acceleration contest or for the purpose of making a speed record, whether from a standing start or otherwise over a measured or unmeasured distance, or in a drag race as herein defined.

“Drag racing” means the operation of 2 or more vehicles from a point side by side at accelerating speeds in a competitive attempt to out-distance each other over a common selected course or where timing is involved or where timing devices are used in competitive accelerations of speeds by participating vehicles. Persons rendering assistance in any manner to such competitive use of vehicles shall be equally charged as participants. The operation of 2 or more vehicles either at speeds in excess of prima facie lawfully established speeds or rapidly accelerating from a common starting point to a speed in excess of such prima facie lawful speed is prima facie evidence of drag racing and is unlawful.

  1. .  If you are innocent, do not accept a plea bargain.  Go to court and demand to clear your name. The jails are full.  They just want to know that you aren't laughing at the justice system while you are declaring your innocence.

  2. You better get a lawyer.
