Dragon Age 2, Fable 3 - Best RPG Nominees - Golden Joystick Awards 2011 – Part 1
Fast paced action and shooting a seemingly endless number of enemies may be what many gamers want from their games these days, however, there are an equal number of players who want more elaborate, free to explore worlds as well.
It is here that the RPG or Role Playing Game genre comes to the front. Taking gamers on long and often epic journeys, with a host of characters and deep storylines, the RPG is the type of genre that one can easily get addicted to.
The Golden Joystick Awards nominees this time around may be fewer in number when compared to some of the other categories, but the competition is more intense as the titles that have been nominated are some of the best to date.
Dragon Age II
Already a strong favourite to go on and win the category, Dragon Age II was a more than worthy successor to its award winning predecessor. With a host of features including the slickest combat in an RPG game and a story that had gamers drawn towards the
game, Dragon Age II will be hard to top.
Dragon Quest
Sticking to the Dragon theme which RPGs tend to base themselves around, Dragon’s Quest was nothing like Dragon’s Age II, apart from the fact that it was a joy to play.
Being on the Nintendo DS meant that graphics were always going to be a compromise, so the gameplay and the plot had to be solid. Fortunately, both were more than just solid as the game went on to sell fairly well.
More sales mean more votes.
Dungeon Siege III
One of the more recent releases in terms of nominees in the category, Dungeon Siege III made a name for itself in a very short period of time.
A different art style and pacing separates the game from the competition, though to be honest it would be a long shot for the game to come out on top once the votes have been cast.
Fable III
The Fable games have always been popular, and though Fable III left plenty to be desired in terms of not meeting the huge expectations fans have from the franchise, it was still a fulfilling RPG experience.
Anticipate plenty of Xbox 360 fans to vote for this exclusive title, but expect it to fall short of winning the category.
Fallout New Vegas
Things could have been so different for Fallout New Vegas had the game not come out with so many glitches. The release was a huge let down as dozens upon dozens of players complained of a wide range of issues with the game.
What made things worse was the fact that the developer took their sweet time to finally patch everything up. By then, the game had left a sour taste in everyone’s mouth and it would take a miracle for this unfortunate game to come anywhere near the top positions.
These were not the only games nominated in this category, to find out what other games managed to muscle their way into competition read on in the next part of this article:
