Dragon’s Aled Brew will join up with Welsh squad
Welsh coach Warren Gatland has called up Newport Gwent Dragon winger Aled Brew as a cover for George North, who is struggling with an injury.
Brew will train with the 34-man panel that will play Australia, South Africa, Fiji and New Zealand in November.
The Dragon’s wing is not expected to start any of the games, but he will train with the squad and be drafted in as cover for North if he fails to prove his fitness.
Scarlets' wing North is one of the uncapped players in the panel, but his place is in doubt since he has not yet recovered from an ankle injury.
The Scarlets believe that North will not be ready in time to feature for Wales. Either way, Gatland is unlikely to play the wing from the start.
The Welsh coach is more likely to introduce the 18-year-old to the Welsh set up and give him an experience of international rugby as a substitute in the later Tests.
Speaking about North, Gatland said, "He's carrying an injury at the moment, but hopefully he'll be back in the next few weeks and will benefit from the experience of being around the national squad."
The Welsh coach has admitted that Brew was very unlucky not to be included in the original panel for the Tests.
The winger hopes that he can prove that he deserves a place in the Welsh 34 and said, "I'm really pleased with the rugby I've played for the Dragons over the last two seasons and I feel I've developed a greater consistency in my game."
"I know that this is a great opportunity to prove my case to the national selectors and I'll certainly be doing everything I can to secure a place in the Welsh squad in the future."
Brew made his debut for Wales against Ireland in 2007, The wing is eager to return to the international set up after failing to cement a place in the team since then.
