Dragons beat Perpignan by 23-13 in Amlin Challenge Cup Pool 4 match - Rugby News
Dragons clinched their second consecutive victory in the ongoing Amlin Challenge Cup while defeating Perpignan on November 17, at Rodney Parade, Newport. Dragons overpowered the Perpignan side by a huge margin of 23-13 after a dominating start.
Jason Tovey was the man to watch as he displayed a wonderful show of well directed kicks. He scored 13 individual points for his team with the help of two drop kicks, one penalty and a couple of conversions goals. Lewis Evans and Adam Jones hailed Dragons
with each try.
Lewis Evans gave his side an ideal start with an opening try in just 12th minute of the match and Tovey converted it successfully on the follow up opportunity. They extended the lead to 10-0 in the middle of the first half and thus laid a strong
foundation for the convincing triumph. A well received try from Adam Jones in the 24th minute saw them to 17 unanswered points.
Perpignan tried to make a comeback in the clash with the help of two penalty goals from their fly-half James Hook. However, Dragons were well ahead of them at the end of first half with 17-6.
The second part of the match remained equally successful for both sides as they added six points each to their totals. Tovey did it for Dragons whereas Perpignan side was awarded a penalty try by the referee in the last minute of the clash, which ended with
23-13. Meanwhile, Gavin Thomas from Dragons and Florian Cazenave from Perpignan were yellow carded in the second half.
