Dragons’ sign new deal with Welsh international duo of Lloyd Burns and Toby Faletau – Rugby News
Welsh professional Rugby Union outfit, Newport Gwent Dragons', 2011/12 season received a major boost as Lloyd Burns and Toby Faletau have signed their new deals with the club. Officials at
the club have confirmed the signing of a new professional contract with the duo in a statement released on their website on Monday, October 31.
Newport Gwent Dragons compete in RaboDirect Pro 12 tournament and in different European competitions like Heineken Cup and Anglo Welsh Cup.
The new contract for Faletau and Burns will keep them with the Dragons until the end of 2013/14 season.
Both players were part of Wales' 2011 Rugby World Cup (RWC) squad, in which Welsh team shocked many with their performance. Wales ended their 2011 RWC campaign, finishing fourth in the tournament.
They lost to Wallabies in the Bronze Medal play off by a margin of three points, with final scorecard reading 21 – 18.
Wales were placed in the toughest pool of the 2011 RWC tournament. They were placed in the pool D, which was also called as “Pool of Death”. They made an impressive start to their 2011 RWC
campaign, as they played a close opener against the defending champions, Springboks, which they eventually lost by a single point. They defeated Ireland in the quarterfinal stage of the tournament but lost to the France in the semifinal of the 2011 RWC tournament.
Welsh international back row forwards player, Toby Faletau, has expressed his satisfaction by signing his new deal with the club. He added although many teams have approached him following
their impressive performance in the 2011 RWC tournament, he remains committed to Dragons.
Faletau said, “The World Cup was a great experience but I'm really looking forward to getting back Rodney Parade." The Tonga born No.8 further added, "I just love to play rugby and I enjoy
being at the Dragons.”
Burns plays at the hooker position for Wales national team. He has expressed his delight in extending his stay with the Dragons. He termed the decision to stay with the Dragons as simple.
Burns further added, “The Dragons have been really good to me and it's where I want to be. I'll be back in training next week and am really looking forward to getting back in with the boys
and taking on the next challenge.”
