Question:

Draining coolant on 94 Silverado

I need to flush my radiator and in both the Haynes and Chilton manuals, it says there are two drain plugs on the engine block to drain the coolant from the engine. Normally I would drain the coolant from the radiator out of the petcock and remove the lower house where it connects to the engine to drain the coolant from the engine. I cannot find these drain plugs the manualx talk about. Am I OK just removing the lower hose at the engine?

  1. Should not be a problem.  The block drain plugs at the lower side of the engine below the exhaust manifolds look like 1/2" ? brass hex bolt heads.  With these bolt plugs removed, all the coolant is drained from the block.  When you do your flush make sure the heater valve is in open position so that the heater core is flushed at the same time with the engine running.
