Drake graduates, Zach Johnson and Alex Miceli, will be seen at the Olympic Club this year
The two former Drake students, Zach Johnson, who plays on the PGA Tour, and Alex Miceli, who reports for Golf Channel, are headed for the Olympic Club in San Francisco with their own targets in mind.
Johnson, the winner of 2007 Masters Tournament and the eight-time PGA Tour winner, is eager to make a good start in the US Open, the second major event of the year. In the meantime, Miceli is looking forward to cover the tournament at its best.
Recently, Johnson recorded a win in the Crowne Plaza Invitational and became a favourite for the US Open this year.
However, a dramatic missed cut at the FedEx St. Jude Classic has once again raised questions about his form on the Tour.
On the other hand, he himself is pretty confident and he has every right to be confident because of the three top-two finishes in the last five tournaments that he has played.
He believes that a single performance cannot decide his form, especially when he had an amazing track record in the recent past.
In the meantime, Miceli commented on his college fellow and said and he always tries to become the best in golf from Drake but Johnson takes his position each time.
“I’m trying real hard to be No. 1, but Zach keeps playing better than me”.
In the early years at Drake, Miceli used to run track for the Bulldogs. In his final year, he was then transferred to Southern Illinois, where he was supposed to finish his history degree.
In 1994, he founded golf.com and started covering the PGA Tour news in 1996. At the US Open venue, he told that he learned to play the game of golf when he was in Des Moines.
He also talked about Johnson’s appearance and said that he was misunderstood by many at Drake and people used to think that he was aloof.
“Back in the day, David Duval would wear those wraparound glasses and people felt he was aloof,” Miceli said. “I think people see Zach and think the same way. I don’t think he’s like that”.
