I need a drama monologue for a female, any age, in the times of the 1930's/1940's. Not a comedy either, something more meaningful and serious perhaps?

  1. Ah. Oscar Wilde should help with this. He's my favourite. Now, you have to search a bit for the serious ones, but they there.

Try this site- it has details about a play that sounds perfect for what you're looking for!

  2. Oscar Wilde is wonderful....but not set in the time of the 1930's or 40's.  Wilde died in 1900.  Some good dramatic pieces can be found in Miller's All My Sons....although there is a revival of the play coming to Broadway soon, so folks might be using it more.  Look into Clifford Odets.  He wrote Waiting for Lefty, Awake and Sing!, and Goldenboy.  Eugene O'Neill and Tennessee Williams wrote during that period as well.  Lillian Hellman's The Children's Hour or The Little Foxes are good ones too.
