Dravid given a big farewell – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 yesterday, and the world of cricket has bid adieu to one of his its most distinguished players of all time.
Rahul Dravid was the definition of what Indian cricket meant in the last decade – a team that was on the rise, and every rise of the team coincided with Dravid performing big. He was paid glowing tributes by former players, who had the honour of sharing
a dressing room with the batsman.
Dravid was overawed by the occasion, the response of those involved in cricket and like an honest man he said, "I had made a pact with myself that I would not cry at any of the functions organized for me over the last three weeks, but I think today that's
been tested to the limit," as he overcame with emotion.
His former teammates had glowing tributes for their former player. Dhoni, the Indian captain in a joking manner called Dravid a great glove-man, saying, "some of the catches he took, may be a regular wicketkeeper would never have taken [them]". When the
Indian team needed a person to wicket-keep to maintain a good mix, it was Dravid who volunteered; it was Dravid who always took one for the team.
Ganguly, his former captain, praised Dravid by saying that he was the reason that the Indian team was so successful during his tenure. If at the forefront it was him, then the work behind the scenes was done by Dravid.
"A lot of people talk about me being the captain, but behind the scenes lot of work was done by you [Dravid] and John, which made Indian cricket successful," Ganguly said.
Laxman pointed towards one of his best attributes. Dravid was a humble person, never basking in his own glory but rather let others have the limelight. Laxman who shared a record partnership with Dravid in the 2001 Kolkata Test match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, said,
"Even after so many achievements, he has always been level headed and for me that is his greatness."
It was a fun evening and the Indian cricket establishment has said good-bye to a humble servant who will long live in the memory.
