Dravid may retire from Test cricket on Friday - Cricket News Update
Rahul Dravid is likely to bid adieu to Test cricket on Friday, March 09, 2012, when he will hold a press conference in Bangalore alongside the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 (BCCI), N Srinivasan.
The Indian cricket board, in a statement released on Thursday revealed that the batting stalwart and the BCCI President will jointly address a press conference on Friday in Dravid’s home city of Bangalore.
"Mr N http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Dravid-c2229 will address media at 12:30 pm on Friday at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru," read the BCCI statement.
The BCCI press release has come on the back of the disastrous Test series in Australia, which the Men in Blue lost 4-0 - their second successive Test series whitewash overseas. Dravid, who was the highest run getter in Test cricket last season, could score
only 194 runs in eight innings Down Under, including a high score of 68 in the Boxing Day Test.
Following his poor form and considering his age (39), there have been growing calls for the former Indian skipper to call time on his 17-year-long international career. Last season, he topped the Test runs chart with a tally of 1145 runs at an average 57.25.
The tally included five centuries and four half centuries.
Prior to the tumultuous tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, Dravid averaged
76.83 in the Test series, scoring three centuries in the process. He played with the same authority against the visiting West Indian side, scoring 319 runs in five innings, which included a century and two half centuries.
Dravid has said previously that after the Australian series he had no intentions of calling it a day.
"I am definitely nearer the end than the beginning, there is no doubt about that,” the middle order batsman had said.
“I haven't made any decision and there is no need to make any decisions now, we're not playing another Test match for seven to eight months so we'll see how it pans out. At my stage in my career it's always about taking it a series at a time and not looking
too far ahead, so we'll see what happens," he had added further.
