Draw for Breeders’ Cup Classic demands trainer and owners to lay out their plans on the table
The much awaited Grade 1, $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic is only 4 days away. The Classic’s hype has been elevated to a higher level because of the thirteen top class horses it has managed to reel in, and they all got confirmed on 31 October, 2011.
The excitement level goes through the ceiling because of the Horse of the Year honours on the line, with the likes of Havre de Grace, Game on Dude, Stay Thirsty and Flat Out running for glory. If any of these horses go on to win the race then an Eclipse
Award is a surety.
On the other hand, the 2010 2-year-old champion, Uncle Mo, who is considered to take on all these great names, was made the 5 to 2 morning line favourite, as he drew post number 12.
The 3-year-old son of Indian Charlie is coming off a mile and a seven furlong race, but he is still under consideration to do well. He is coming off a 4 months layoff from a serious liver disease which was the reason why he lost the Resorts World New York
Casino Grade 1 Wood Memorial before missing the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby.
On the flipside of things, if Uncle Mo goes on to win the race than the Mike Repole and Todd Pletcher trained 3-year-old colt is sure to be given serious consideration with the victory and the Horse of the Year title on 5 November.
Uncle Mo is coming off a win in the Grade 2 Kelso Handicap, where he achieved a massive 118 Beyer Speed Figure and he nearly won his return race from liver disease the Grade 1 King’s Bishop Stakes where he got nosed out by Caleb’s Posse to finish second.
Havre de Grace on the other hand has been installed as the 3 to 1 second choice favourite, and she drew post number 10. It’s going to be a mouth watering encounter including the past two Grade 1 Belmont Stakes winner Drosselmeyer and Ruler on Ice among the
line of 13.
The winner of three graded Derby’s, Prayer for Relief drew post number 1. All in all the 3-year-old crop is well presented and there is a high chance that from within that lot the Breeders’ Cup Classic winner will emerge on 5 November
