ABOUT 14 OF OUR NUCLEAR REACTORS OUT OF THE EXISTING 22 WILL HAVE TO GENERATE ELECTICITY AND NOT INVOLVE IN ANY SORTS OF NUCLEAR MISSILE RESEARCH WHICH WILL BE DIRECTLY UNDER IAEA'S SUPERVISION AND OUR SCIENTISTS WILL BE HELPED BY THE USA TO HELP THIS HAPPEN AND POSSIBLY IT WILL BUILT A FEW MORE REACTORS TO GENERATE ELCTRICITY AND HELP US MORE.

INSTEAD WE HAVE TO GIVE A PART OF THORIUM TO USA

NOW THERE IS OPPOSITON FROM AUSTRALIA AND OTHER URANIUM RICH COUNTRIES AS THORIUM WHICH THE USA WILL GET CAN BE "ENRICHED" TO BE USED IN NUCLEAR REACTORS TO GENERATE ELECTRICITY IN USA.

NOW THIS WILL HURT THE BUSSINES  OF SUCH URANIUM RICH COUNTRIES. BUT WILL BENEFIT US(INDIANS)  IN LONG RUN

ITS AFFECT CAN BE FELT IMMIDATELY AFTER THE A FEW MONTHS OF THE DEAL BEING SIGNED BUT FULL FLEDGE AFFECT WILL BE ONLY AFTER MINIMUM 10 YRS

THIS IS NOT DUE ANY POLITICAL FACTORS THAT IT WILL TAKE SUCH A LONG TIME BUT ITS BECAUSE A NUCLEAR REACTOR TAKES UP SPACE AS LARGE AS A SMALL CITY LIKE VASHI

BUT AFTER INCLUDING THE INDIAN METHOD OF PROGRESS IT MA TAKE LONGERR

In relative terms it does limit the nuclear research to every application except the weapon grade production, testing and proliferation!

The leftists alliance did fear that the acceptance of this clause would definite to make the dominant role of United States in arming itself better and also to pressurise India to accept to certain military measures for safety, in the future, namely India to loose the sovereignty!

This is an illusion and the US did not have a clause to this effect EXCEPT TO IMPOSE SANCTIONS ON INDIA if it violates the agreement in the use of materials supplied under the civilian use for power generation!

The above perhaps being a clause of secrecy the Government could not divulge with extensive expression which would also violates the contract for the supply of nuclear materials!

This nuclear deal is good and safe for India and would also save India from the deep power crisis in the upcoming decades!

nuke deal has many disadvantages some of 'em r-

Our basic objections to this deal stem from our opposition to the production and use of both nuclear weapons and nuclear energy. And from the fact that the whole cycle of nuclear production beginning with uranium mining, is fraught with catastrophic dangers

by using nuclear power, India would be spending anywhere beyond Rs two lakh crore more than the available alternatives. Imagine, this cost difference can build nearly 20,000 fully-equipped 100-bed public hospitals, or, 2,50,000 schools like the Navodaya Vidyalayas with full boarding facilities for 100 students.

The cost differential is so huge that, while generating the same amount of electricity from alternative sources, we need not deny 20 lakh children of quality primary education or 250 lakh people of quality medical care Compared with gas, nuclear power would be twice as expensive. So is the case with hydro electricity. Therefore, by all counts, nuclear power is the most expensive

This whole process is likely to escalate the arms race between Pakistan and India, sabotaging the India-Pakistan peace process. How can we ignore that fact the US sells arms to both India and Pakistan?

The agreement also facilitates a full-fledged international exchange of nuclear fuel and technology with insufficient caution and control. There will no doubt be a corporate rush to extract, export and misuse nuclear fuel and technology, and it will be very difficult to prevent misuse even for the arms trade. Highly superficial clauses don't instill any confidence against such a possibility.

The deal ensures supply of sufficient nuclear material to nuclear reactors in India for the next 40 years, but the precautionary agreements to negotiations and consultations are only promises for the future. All this is subject to approvals and conditions to be monitored by the US Congress, while sidelining the Indian parliament
