Drawbridge operator question?

if you worked this drawbridge how would you get to it everyday(link below). would you have to walk this dangerous strip of railroadd to get to the movable span in the middle.

  1. Most bridges have catwalks.  Others have a ladder and a small boat is used to access the operators cab.


  2. I would assume someone could give you a ride. I know a guy nearby that operates a drawbridge. There is a small sidewalk along side of the bridge operators area. On the nice days he drives his Harley down the sidewalk and straight to work. On crappy days someone just drops him off. The tower for the bridge operator is at street level, not down by the water.

  3. some RR bridges they will ride the bridge tender or by a small truck fitted with railroad type wheels

  4. There is probably a wider walkway than is apparent, possibly on the far side of the bridge.   Otherwise the most likely method of access would be by boat.

  5. I'm sure there's a catwalk that you can't see in the pic, where you climb down some stairs, then walk under or next to the tracks, all the way to another staircase up to the control room.
