  1. If you use an ATM card overseas you get a good

exchange rate and you pay about double the "other bank ATM's"

    fee for using it overseas.

If the amount is high enough, this comes to a very low percentage.

My bank charges US$3 for a foreign ATM withdrawal.

If you use a credit card for a cash advance,

you pay the cash advance fee, the interest, AND

a 3-4% foreign currency charge.  Don't do that!

  2. if youve got time go to a nationwide and ask to open up a flex account with a cash card. you can use this to withdraw your money for free. im goin to malia aswell next week and ive opened up one!

  3. It depends.  If it's a credit card, it's between 1 - 3% for the exchange fee, 3% for the cash advance, and whatever you were charged for using the ATM.  I pay something like one or two or three dollars for using any ATM that is not attached to my bank, but I'm not sure what you would be charged for using a credit card, if anything.

If you have a debit card, same exchange fee, almost definitely a usage fee, and either way, you can be assured you are getting the best possible exchange rate...like, the Euro, right now, is $1.57, US, meaning you pay about $1.59 for credit card, 1.61 or so for changing a traveller's check, and 1.63 for changing cash...so, best rate using a card.

  4. If you have a Nationwide debit card it costs you nothing.

All other cards charge a percentage of each transaction - on average 3-4%. Also be careful of the exchange rate which varies from bank to bank.

  5. Everyone else is spot-on with their advice. The only thing I would add, when you withdraw money from and ATM, is to do it in the city. DO NOT do it at the airport or any other transportation station. You have a much higher % of usage fees here. Go to a bank's ATM in the city.
