Draws and Format for the First Snooker Shoot-Out Event
Draws for the first snooker Shoot-Out event in the history of the sport have been announced recently by the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association, WPBSA.
The event will be held at the Circus Arena, Blackpool from the 28th to the 30th
of January, 2011. The Shoot-Out tournament has been designed to reinforce the efforts made by the Chairman of the WPBSA, Barry Hearn and legendary Steve Davis, to change the image of snooker and bring the sport to the public’s notice.
The random draw for this event was held at Norfolk recently. The top 64 players in the world rankings will be taking part in this incipient tournament which has prize money of £32,000.
The innovative tournament will see many exciting matches in the first round, as some of the top cueists enter the fray early in the tournament.
Draw – The first round draw has been announced, however, the schedule details for the matches are to be announced later. The draws are as follows:
Jamie Burnett vs. Andrew Higginson

Marcus Campbell vs. Jimmy Michie

Jimmy Robertson vs. Mark King

Mathew Selt vs. Alfie Burden

Barry Hawkins vs. Peter Lines

Marco Fu vs. Ronnie O’Sullivan

Michael Holt vs. Stephen Lee

Alan McManus vs. Michael Judge

Mark Williams vs. John Higgins

Tony Drago vs. Liang Wenbo

Joe Perry vs. Ricky Walden

Joe Swail vs. Mark Davis

Anthony Hamilton vs. Anthony McGill

Stuart Bingham vs. Ian McCulloch

Mark Allen vs. Ryan Day

Peter Ebdon vs. Steve Davis
As from the draws themselves, one can see that the first round of this exciting tournament is going to be full of crunch matches. The first epic match will see Mark Williams and John Higgins play each other; both players are finalists
of the UK championship. Another interesting match will see Marco Fu taking on ‘The Rocket’, Ronnie O’Sullivan.
Two former world champions, Peter Ebdon and the legendary Steve Davis will also get a taste of this brand new format, while Ali Carter and Jimmy White will find themselves in in another big match of the first round.
Format – the World Snooker Shoot-Out is a non-ranking event with the format of the matches consisting of just one knockout frame.
Each match will be 10 minutes long; a shot clock of 20 seconds will be set for the first 5 minutes, and 15 seconds for the latter half. The shot clock will allow each player to take 20 seconds before going for a shot, and only
15 in the last five minutes of the game. The tournament will prove to be a 'pot fest' with such a format.
