The 18-year old German youngster, Julian Draxler, looks to get over the disappointment of missing out on the national squad by passing A-levels.
The Schalke midfielder was part of Germany’s provisional squad for Euro 2012 but was left out by Joachim Low from the final squad. Draxler featured in Germany’s match against Switzerland which ended 5-3 to Switzerland. Following
the loss the starlet, along with four others, was omitted from the final squad.
The Royal Blues' player was distraught after being left out of the final 23-man squad which left for Poland and Ukraine.
"At first I was really disappointed (not to make the cut)," Draxler was quoted as saying in an interview.
A phone call from parents and friends was enough for Draxler to realize that it was an achievement rather than a disappointment.
"But when I was packing my bag I phoned my parents and friends. They told me that it is crazy to be sad” he added.
While his team-mates will be in Ukraine and Poland gunning for Euro glory he will be surrounded by books. The young midfielder decided to get over the disappointment by appearing for Abitur (German Equivalent of A levels). The
18-year old intends to appear for Mathematics, History and Biology before he can build his fitness in the pre-season.
"I still have to pass three (Abitur, the German equivalent of A-levels) exams: mathematics, history and biology. I want to sit them as soon as possible so that I can go on holiday before pre-season training starts with Schalke.
My motto: the main thing is to pass." he further added.
The midfielder was an integral part of Schalke’s squad and his performances earned him call up to the national squad. Draxler had an impressive season as he made 45 appearances and scored 3 goals for ‘Die Königsblauen’ since 2010
which saw him being named alongside future German prospects which include the likes of Mario Gotze, Mesut Ozil, Thomas Muller and İlkay Gündoğan.
The next season seems crucial for the young midfielder as he attempts to cement his place in the Schalke 04 team which consists of stars like Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Jefferson Farfan and Benedikt Howedes.
