Dream Ahead, Frankel and Saamidd confirmed for Dewhurst Stakes
Saturday’s seven-furlong Group 1 Darley Dewhurst Stakes has been confirmed to be a racegoers delight with the release of the racecard containing the three names that every punter and horseracing fan have been watching for this season. The three great unbeaten
juveniles of the year, Dream Ahead, Frankel and Saamidd will face off at Newmarket this weekend.
It's scared some other competition off, too.
"I have had a long chat with the owners, and we have decided to opt out of what looks a very strong Dewhurst,” said Native Khan’s trainer Ed Dunlop. "They say never be afraid of one horse, but it seems that there are three to be wary of in Saturday's race."
Native Khan would have been set up as the fourth favourite if he hadn’t defected, as had the Michael Jarvis-trained Elzaam. Native Khan will instead be racing the PostTrophy in Doncaster next weekend.
Aiden O’Brien’s top horse Roderic O’Conner will line up as the fourth, behind the big three and ahead of Waiter's Dream and Glor Na Mara in the six-horse field.
"Frankel has been good on the eye but Dream Ahead is the one with the form and he looked special in the Middle Park. He will be tough to beat," said Frankie Dettori, who will be Saamidd’s jockey at Dewhurst on Saturday.
"I like my fellow and he won very easily at Doncaster, but he's still on the weak side. The Dewhurst is the obvious next step from the Champagne. He's lazy at home and doesn't do too much in the mornings. But it's ones like that who usually end up being
the good ones."
Saamidd is backed at 5-1 odds, while the jockey has biggest worry Dream Ahead is backed at 3-1. Frankel is the odds-on favourite with 8-11.
