  1. i see tunney outboxing baer here as tunney learned a lot from his fights with greb and wins a unanimous decision over a motivated and in-shape baer.

  2. Tunney. With one caveat. Baer could knockout anyone. Yet he clowned and too often showed up unfocused and poorly trained. Tunney was always focused and razor sharp(only Greb rode roughshod over all Tunney had done). Answer: Tunney!!!!

  3. If this takes place before Baer-Schaaf, then Baer by KO.  If after, then Tunney by a lopsided UD.

Boxers who have ended the lives of another boxer aren't the same after.  This is true of Baer, Ray Mancini and even current lightweight Jesus Chavez took a year and a half off after Leavander Johnson died.  He lost his first fight back.  Baer lost to Braddock - who was a club fighter.

Anyway, vs a young Baer, Tunney gets KO'd. Otherwise he wins by UD.

  4. Max was a slugger who could hurt anyone during that time.  He played around and didn't take boxing seriously espically after a fighter (Ernie Schaaf) died in the ring against him.

Tunney was a very careful boxer who didn't take many chances.  Many people considered that to be a smart apporach to the sport.  That style would cost him in close fights against those who could come close to, or surpass, his movement.  It would not have made a difference against Baer.

Tunney would lead on points early, get hurt in the middle rounds and stay a safe distance for the remainder of the fight.   This one is not hard to call.

    Tunney by decision

  5. Tunney, with ease, Baer wouldn't be able to get close long enough to land anything hard.

  6. gene tunney  in his prime
