  1. Greb all the way!

  2. i would probably go with greb as well, just maybe too much aggression for burley.

  3. Greb wins due to the greater volume of punches landed per round

  4. I'll take Greb in this match.

Historian Eric Jorgensen stated "Greb may have been the best p4p fighter who ever lived...he combined the speed of Ray Robinson, the durability of Jim Jeffries, the stamina of Henry Armstrong, and the unbridled ferocity of Stanley Ketchel, with a will to win unsurpassed in the annuals of sport. At his peak he was unbeatable, defeating everymiddle, light heavy and heavyweight of his generation." (With all those qualities and accomplishments rolled into one, that's quite a fighting machine to beat.)

Jack Johnson said Greb was the fastest puncher to throw leather. Jack Dempsey said " Greb was the fastest fighter I ever saw, hel.l, Greb is faster than Benny Leonard." Gene Tunney was amazed with Greb's skills. Tunney was a outstanding fighter who was very quick and had great reflexes. Yet Tunney said "Fighting Greb was like fighting a phantom." For this type of praise from Gene appearently Greb was extremely fast with out of this world reflexes.

Greb slashed and destroyed Gene in their 1st. bout. The 2nd. and 4th.was very hotly contested. Many felling Greb won. Greb fought and beat a great (Tunney) who was heavier, taller, better reach!

Also Greb sparred with Jack Dempsey. Many seen this, however one writer (Sparrow McGann) saw and printed it first hand - "Dempsey was in training...into the ring came a dark faced beautifully built middleweight with a face as serious as Dempsey's...Greb sailed into Dempsey...he (Dempsey) had been cuffed, basted, and slammed until his black eyes glowed like fire balls, and set himself to hand...that would keep his tormentor (Greb) quite...but Dempsey never did land squarley upon that elusive dynamo in front of him...Greb had hardely been touched... asked to leave camp and never return."  Everyone that Dempsey had fought (Tommy Gibbons - Bill 'KO' Brennan - Ed 'Gunboat Smith - Billy Miske - Willie Meehan.) Greb completly annihilated.(Till the day he died Harry swore he could beat Dempsey.)

How would Burley have fared in a sparring session with Jack Dempsey ? And could Burley have beaten the great and ultra slick Gene Tunney, at least once ?

Harry had fought and seen it all. He fought guy's who could knock your teeth out, and beat them. He fought guy's who were very quick with loads of stamina, and beat them. He fought guy's who were great feinters and counter punchers (Burley), and beat them. He fought guy's who were ring thinkers, defensive and offensive greats, and beat them. There was no style or attribute that Greb hadnt come across and beat. Could Burley bring enough to the table to beat Greb?

Burley was a strong hitter, but keep in mind Greb had a oustanding chin. You dont have Approx. 300 bouts and only been down, what, 2-3(?) times without having a granite chin. So Burley is not taking Greb out with the first good shot.

Greb had the far tougher competion over Burley, fighting and beating more champs and future champs from several weight divisons.

Burley was a great counter puncher, waiting and picking his shots for just the right ones. But with Grebs speed and non-stop ferocity I feel he would constantly be throwing Burley's timing off, smothering him, never allowing for good counter-punching from Burley, his mainstay.

Dont get me wrong, I feel Burley was a great. Many of his opponents and well known trainers attest to this fact and that holds weight with me as well. I just feel that Greb was a bit greater all around.
