This really would have been a great fight. Ruben Olivares was a great fighter and had excellent boxing skills and did great body work. This is one of those fights that are really hard to predict. Gomez was a devastating puncher and I believe he would have eventually landed and finished Olivares between 8 - 10 rounds.

Tough call I give Gomez a slight edge, but it could go either way depending on who gets nailed flush first.  One thing you could count on is that this one isn't going the distance.

two of the gutsiest fellas you'll ever see in a boxing ring,both fought like their lives depended on it,both similar styles,it's a hard one bout my instinct tells me if a similar fight were today,id have to bet on the slightly stronger Gomez,who beat class opposition just as good as Olivares.ill cast sentiment to one side,and after looking at them both again in my collection Id have to go for the Bazooka,Wilfredo Gomez!by close decision victory.
