  1. I like Sanchez, based on stamina and power. Pep's legendary boxing skill is defensive-he lacked punching power & physical strength.

  2. Sanchez never lived long enough to fight as many fights as Pep,in Peps day there was more match ups anyway. What I have seen of Sanchez convinces me he would have beat, narrowly,Willie Pep,probably TKO RND 12.

  3. chuck norris

  4. pep outbox's sanchez in this one,but has to work hard for it.

  5. This fight is a scaled down version of your Marciano/Tunnney question.  The difference is Sanchez was more of a boxer/puncher than just a straight slugger.  Pep was more boxer  than puncher, legendary for his foot and hand speed.  It would come down to Pep's speed vs Sanchez's pressure and it could go either way.  Salvador Sanchez is one of my top three favorite boxers all time, so I have a hard time being objective.  This fight would be very similar to Hagler/Leonard and it would depend on what type of fighter the judges preferred.

I tend to lean toward the fighter pressing the action, and a guy with aggressive activity will usually out score a fighter who specialized in defensive finesse and counter punching.  I would give the fight to the guy who is actually "fighting" and marvel at the foot speed, blocking, slipping and "ring generalship" of Pep right along with the rest of us, but you win fights by hitting the other guy, not by not getting hit yourself.  Salvador Sanchez would land more punches, dictate the pace of the fight and if the scorekeeper's didn't suffer from the same disease the Hagler/Leonard judges had, Sanchez should win on point's if he didn't KO Pep first.

Sanchez would do enough to win a razor thin decision, just like Hagler did against Ray, then make it a moot point by knocking out Willle Pep late anyway.

    Sanchez by KO.

  6. Willie Pep one of the best feathers ever nearly five times more fights than Sanchez, unfortunately Salvador Sanchez died in a car crash and could have done a lot more in boxing, sadly you have to say Pep as Sanchez was not around long enough

  7. I like Pep.
