After the first Test, the fans were expecting to see a thrilling second match. They were not disappointed at all as the first day of the second match was full of action and excitement. Australia was expecting to do well in the
second match after winning the toss. Ricky Ponting decided to bat first and he couldn’t have imagined what was in store for them in the first few overs of play. Just adding two runs, Australia lost three of their top order batsmen including Captain Ricky Ponting.
James Anderson was on fire in the first hour of the match. There was some resistance from the middle order batsmen but England was on top at the end of the day. Australia was bowled out on the first day for a modest total. Having
won the toss and batting first, Australia would be disappointed with the score they achieved. England on the other hand would be delighted by the performance of their bowlers and would be looking forward to capitalize on the start they have got by scoring
a big first innings score and taking a lead to pressurize Australia who was unable to post a big score today.
The day started with Australia winning the toss and electing to bat first. The hosts were in trouble straight away when they lost Simon Katich in the first over. Katich was run out without facing a single delivery. This brought
the Australian Captain to the crease who had a good run in the past at Adelaide. He would have been confident walking in because of his second innings fifty in the first match. The things were not in his favor though as he got out on the first ball he faced
from James Anderson. Australia had lost two wickets in the first over of the second test match and Michael Clarke had to come earlier than he would have expected. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 had just opened his account with a couple of runs in the second over but he was also a
victim to some accurate swing bowling from Anderson.
Australia was in deep trouble when the dependable Michael Hussey walked in. Together with Shane Watson, Hussey built a solid stand of 93 runs before Watson was out again to some brilliant bowling from James Anderson. After the
wicket of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326, Hussey made a couple of fifty partnerships with Marcus North and Brad Haddin. North got out to Steve Finn after a struggling 26 and Hussey fell seven short of his second Ashes century this summer getting out to Graeme Swann. After that Haddin
played a fighting innings of 56 runs before all the Australian team was out for 245.
England was good in the field as two of the Australian batsmen got run out. James Anderson was the pick of the bowlers carrying his good form from the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755. Graeme Swann also chipped in with a couple of wickets.
It was a good day for the English team. Andrew Strauss wouldn’t have asked for a better start from his bowlers after losing the toss and fielding first. England had to play just a single over before the end of the first day’s play
in the second match of the 2010 Ashes. The English batsmen survived the lone over from Ryan Harris and would be looking to make the most of the position they are in after the first day’s play.
The Australian bowlers will be under immense pressure to bowl the English batsmen out cheaply. They would need some special performances from their bowlers like Peter Siddle in the first test match. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 had made two changes
to their side bringing in Ryan Harris and Doug Bollinger in place of Ben Hilfenhaus and Mitchell Johnson.
