Question:

Dreaming of A Baby Boy?

The Dream: I had a dream last night about having a little boy. I went through the whole pregnancy, seeing my stomach, giving birth in the hospital, feeling the joy of the birth and love for the child. It was natural birth and my whole family was there. At the hospital I couldn't figure a name for him, but I wanted it to begin with an "h". 4 children have "A" names and one who is named after dad has an "H" name, so I wanted to make it even. My mother suggested Hassan after going through various H names, which I found out today means good-looking or handsome. We took him home and he was a handsome, curly dark-haired baby. We accidentally left him in the house on one occasion. I could feel the anxiety I had when we realized that we left him asleep in the house. That's all I can remember before waking up.

About Me: I'm 32, engaged and a mother of 5. The father of the child in the dream, is also the father of our other children. We were together for 10 years, broke up for several years and recently got back together after a failed (and stalker/abusive) relationship I got out of before him. Being pregnant is not quite impossible because I had my tubes tied after our last child in 2002(due to difficulties).

We are looking to move into another place soon, I already have a job (fundraiser at a non-profit) and he does also (he works as a subcontractor). Our kids are starting school soon (that time of the year) and are active in the Boys & Girls Club football and cheerleading. I am currently in college and taking classes and our life is pretty normal.

Any Suggestions about the dream?

  1. Baby

To see a baby in your dream, signifies innocence, warmth and new beginnings.  Babies may symbolize something in your own inner nature which is pure, vulnerable, and/or uncorrupted. Babies may represent an aspect of yourself that is vulnerable and helpless.  If you dream that you forgot you had a baby, then it suggests that you are trying hide your own vulnerabilities; You do not want to let others know of your weaknesses.

If you dream that you are on your way to the hospital to have a baby, then it signifies your issues of dependency and your desire to be completely care for. To dream that you are dipping a baby in and out of water, signifies regression. You are regressing to a time where you had no worries and responsibilities.  Alternatively, it is reminisce of when the baby is in the fetus and in its comfort zone. In fact, some expectant mothers even give birth in a pool, because the environment in the water mimics the environment in the uterus. It is less traumatic for the baby as it emerges into the world. So perhaps, the dream your search for your own comfort zone.

    Pregnant

To dream that you are pregnant, symbolizes an aspect of yourself or some aspect of your personal life that is growing and developing. You may not be ready to talk about it or act on it.  This may also represent the birth of a new idea, direction, project or goal.

If you are really pregnant and having this dream, then it represents your anxieties about the pregnancy.  Women in the first  trimester of their pregnancy tend to dream of tiny creatures, fuzzy animals, flowers, fruit and water. In the second trimester, dreams will reflect your anxieties about being a good mother and concerns about possible complications with the birth. Dreams of giving birth to a non-human baby are also common during this period of the pregnancy. Finally, in the third trimester, dreams consists of your own mother. In particular, if you dream that you are giving birth to a monster, then it implies that your inner creative energy has yet to differentiate itself and grow into expression. You may hold some hesitation in releasing this "monster" for fear that others will judge your or that they will not accept your ideals.

To dream that the mother dies during birth, represents transformation. The dream represents the ending of one thing (death) and the new beginning of another thing (birth). You may be making life changes or getting rid of your old habits and ways.

  2. To me, it sounds like your mind is telling you that you have too much on your plate.  Sometimes we can be anxious and not even realize it, since it's become such a part of us (I was that way, actually).  I remember the dreams I had, fear that I'd forgotten my son somewhere was a common one.  I've also had the dreams that I was pregnant. What you described sounds a lot like some dreams I had (I wonder how common that is?)  Anyhow, it might benefit you to learn some relaxation techniques and do them as part of your bedtime routine. If you notice a big difference (and I hope you do), then that likely was the issue.
