Dreaming of Julia to Juvenile Fillies while Pletcher undecided over Kauai Katie’s future
Stonestreet Stables’ Dreaming of Julia and Kauai Katie are also trained by the same trainer, Todd Pletcher, and the veteran horseman is contemplating next starts for his top ranked fillies of the juvenile division.
Dreaming of Julia and Kauai Katie are both undefeated in three starts, and will look to extend their unbeaten record wherever they race next. As far as, Dreaming of Julia is concerned, the A. P. Indy filly is pointed toward the Grade 1, $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, which will be run over 1 1/16 miles at Santa Anita Park on 2 November, 2012.
She is two works away from a start in the Breeders’ Cup race. She will work at Belmont Park before shipping to Santa Anita on 30 October.
John Velazquez, who guided the filly to three successful starts in as many races, will be aboard the filly once again in the Juvenile Fillies, which will be Dreaming of Julia’s first two-turn test.
Out of Wild Rush mare Dream Rush, the filly broke her maiden at first asking over 6 ½ furlongs at Saratoga, and then landed her first stakes race, the Meadow Star Stakes on 9 September. She is currently exiting victory in the Grade 1 Frizette Stakes also at Belmont Park on 6 October over a mile.
“She’s got great mechanics, an efficient stride,” Pletcher said. “She’s a perfect blend of her sire and dam. A.P. Indy is a tremendous stamina influence, and she gets tactical speed from her dam, Dream Rush. The combination of the two gives her a high cruising speed and the ability to carry it a distance of ground.”
On the other hand, Pletcher isn’t sure where to run Kauai Katie, as distance will be a big problem for her because she hasn’t run beyond 6 ½ furlongs. However, she has won all her three starts by a combined margin of 22 lengths.
“She’s going to have to show us she’s wanting more distance,” Pletcher said of advancing to the Juvenile Fillies. “We were very pleased with the way she rated last time, finished up very well."
