Dreaming of Julia will relish the Grade 1 Frizette Stakes opportunity
The Todd Pletcher trained undefeated 2-year-old filly, Dreaming of Julia, is set to make her Grade 1 debut in the $400,000 Frizette Stakes at Belmont Park on October 6, 2012.
Stonestreet Stable’s homebred filly will face 6 other 2-year-old fillies over the one-turn mile test, which shouldn’t be unfamiliar territory for Dreaming of Julia, as she is exiting a brilliant victory in the Meadow Star Stakes over a distance of 1 mile at Belmont Park on 9 September, 2012, where she was able to down Fully Living and Over the Counter, who finished second and third, respectively.
The Kentucky bred daughter of A. P. Indy covered the 1 mile distance efficiently in 1 minute and 36.46 seconds.
Out of Wild Rush mare Dream Rush, Dreaming of Julia popped into the racing scene with an eye-popping 10 ½ length maiden victory at Saratoga under John Velazquez, who guided the juvenile filly to a tremendous victory in 6 ½ furlong maiden, which was covered in 1 minute and 16.48 seconds on 6 August, 2012.
Stonestreet, who also campaigns there star filly, Kauai Katie, have Dreaming of Julia in their ranks as well.
"The obvious reason (we targeted the Frizette with Dreaming of Julia) is that she's a daughter of A.P. Indy, and the way she trains and the way she ran in her debut suggests that added distance won't be a problem," said Pletcher. "In the case of keeping her and Kauai Katie separated, it was really based on the type of fillies they are. They're both fast, but one is bred to go long and the other filly might go long at some point but seems to be a gifted sprinter. We were lucky we had two good options for them."
Jockey John Velazquez will retain the ride for the third time aboard Dreaming of Julia going into the Frizette Stakes, where she is installed at 2 to 5 on the morning line, and will break from post number 7.
The real threat in the Frizette will come from post number 2, as My Happy Face will who is coming off a staggering 21 ¼ length maiden victory at Saratoga on 31 August.
