Question:

Dreaming of smoking, craving cigs, but I don't smoke?

I don't smoke, and I very much dislike it (the smell, the diseases it probably will cause, etc...). But several times I have dreamed about smoking, and when I wake up, I want to smoke. (I just had a dream again last night.)

Oddly, my brother had been visiting one weekend, but forgot his hat, cigarettes, and lighter. I had just had a smoking dream the night before, and remembered his cigarettes were here. So, of course, I tried it out. (Didn't like it, but satisfied my craving.)

WTF?

  1. Perhaps you have been passive smoking while being around your brother.  Your body may have been looking for another hit.

I gave up smoking 15 years ago and even after all this time I dream that I am smoking again and sometimes if I smell smoke it makes me want one again even though I hate it now.

  2. This happened to me when I took a hiatus from coffee (I usually drink HEAPS)

Are you quitting some addictive drug, or have you recently cut back on exercise?

  3. In your your walking life you are craving to smoke ; but your fear of disease had stop you until now ; but one day the crave will be so  strong that you will smoke ; but if you are strong mind ; you will try it but stop ; because cigarette is highly addictive

  4. its also an image thing, you look cool if you smoke is why some people do it

  5. Maybe that's all you needed was to try it out. Now maybe the dreams will go away. The dreams was your way of wanting to try it. Now that you have, you can dream of other things.

  6. Cravings are usually a result of deficiencies in your diet/lifestyle.

Sometimes pregnant women get cravings to eat dirt... do you think they should do it to satisfy it?  No.

Perhaps it's the feeling of endorphins you're looking for, or perhaps it's just something to do with your hands/mouth/lungs.

Maybe you're missing something from your day to day life... when did you start having these dreams and what changed specifically around that time?

  7. The fact that you had cravings and the cigarette made them go away supports the passive smoking theory. Your subconscious mind learns to associate cigarettes and the effects of nicotine long before the conscious mind does. There are other possibilities, though, including ones in which the cigs represented something else and the reduction in craving was just the notorious calming effect of nicotine.
