  1. as the first answer says it is just a firing of neurons.

we actually dream for about twenty minutes four or five time a night! you are more likely to remember your dreams if you're woken during rem sleep. moreover, i think, we remember more than one of those dreams in the night for example if we're woken up during our second round of rem sleep we may remember dreams from our first round of rem sleep. if this is the case then dreams could merge whereby innocent dreams about garden tools and mowing the lawn followed by i=an innocent dream about a walk in the wark with family and friends culd turn merge into a bloodbath! i have good reason to think this, but worry not io'll spare you the details! (of course there's little or no evidence testing this idea.) God bless x

  2. It's just the random firing of neurons as you sleep, which is when your brain reviews, processes, and stores information.

  3. i think you'd find sigmund freud 'the interpretation of dreams' a very rewarding read.

for the psychoanalytic interpretation, dreams come from your own subconscious. they deal with various issues that are on your mind, but not consciously, various pieces of experience, desires, wishes, worries. but, these will not come out in dreams expressed as such, but in disguise. for this, various processes are at work - displacement, condensation, etc. your ego may find certain wishes unacceptable, or you are in denial about something and thus a disguised dream whose contents you need to decipher by means of psychoanalysis. or, an emotion or situation may come up in dreams in exactly its opposite form.

there's so much to tell about this, but i hope you found it interesting up till now.
