Dreams keeping me awake! Gotta get some sleep! Help?

Ok, so the last five or six nights in a row i've had the same dream and it's really disrupting my life... because it involves my ex!!! I really just jerk myself awake becuase the dream is so fantastic and perfect that i can't deal with it- because he's with a new girl now... and to be honest- when i dream about him like this i feel so safe and hot and bothered almost that it's painful- since he has someone new.

but the dream's the same-

I'm playing the piano (something classical that i can't put my finger on- which is strange because i don't play the piano) And it's in a gym and it's dark execpt for the piano- and he walks up as i play and wants me to dance with him- and i get up and instantly we're dancing in the park. I'm in my soccer uniform and he's in his basketball uniform and then... he gives me such a great passionate kiss- i swear it's real. Then i'm sitting in an airport alone... and then i jerk myself awake.

Is this normal? How to make it stop? What do they mean?

  1. Since it's your dream and your subconscious, you are the director, the writer and you control this dream. The dream is not happening to you. You are creating it. Therefore you have the power to change it or stop it. IF you want to...

Here's what you do. As you go to sleep, keep in mind what you will do if the dream starts again. When he approaches you at the piano and wants to dance with you, don't! Ask him why he wants to dance with you. Or tell him to leave you alone...Whatever. Break the pattern.

This idea comes from a story by a friend who had a recurring nightmare of being chased by a bear. One night when that dream began he turned and asked the bear who he was and he was able to end the nightmares.

Just remember: the dream is not outside you, not happening to you. You have the power.

  2. Your dream is, unfortunately, one of struggling to let go of what now seems so idyllic about this former love.

Your feelings as described in your opening remarks distinctly relate to the better things you either realized or wished for and felt were within reach during the relationship.  You seem not ready to have let this one go, but now must.

The magical playing of the piano creates a euphoric height by which the romance may resume - all at your own fingertips and by your own heart and mind, 'though you do not really play.  This is a projection of what you feel - if only you could 'replay' this thing what heights you would take it to...

The gym - a bit odd.  The park and dancing, less so - but, you seem to see the two of you at your strongest in this context, something powerful by which you can meet on equal and great terms.

Then comes the coup d' grace - the final kiss - and you are on your way 'out'.  The airport is a place of departure - you will rapidly now put distance between yourself and this former beau - your mind is telling you that by this dream.

Yes, it was perhaps sweet - and hard to drop, but when one awakens at the airport the next leg of your life's great journey is just beginning.  Think then of what you have gained - and may apply when opportunity next comes knocking.

    All the best to you.

  3. The best way to get over someone is to get under someone else.

  4. I hate the be the one on here with the dirty mind, but you used the word "jerk" a couple of times above.  So I'll come right out and say it:  you wanted handsome to tinkle your keys in the right way.  Yes, I interpret your dream as pure lust, desire for the one-eyed monster.  Of course, your dream also has the touch of the green-eyed monster -- as Shakespeare called it.  Yes, yes ... jealousy.  Forget about him.  Forget about her.  Find some new avocation for yourself just to enjoy your own life more than you presently are doing.  Now, there is nothing wrong with fantasy, but if you keep jerking yourself awake like you've been doing, you'll just wind up with arthritis ... IF you know what I mean.

  5. It is just your buried feelings and they manifest by showing you what you wished would happen and your realization that it cannot.

    Sorry.
