There are two general types of drench used so that worms do not develop resistance to the drench. What are the two types of drench?

Parasites WILL develop resistance to ivermectin and Cydectin.  Ivermectin resistance is widely documented in Australia.  First of all, both of those are of the same family of products and once resistance occurs for ivermectin, resistance to Cydectine willl soon follow.  Regardless of how many products are on the market, there is only three families of products,  ivermectin, levamisole and the "white" wormers such as Safeguard and Valbazen.

To control parasites as well as resistance, you need to manage three things: animal genetics for natural resistance, manage pastures to limit ingestion of larve and manage your worming program by rotating wormers yearly and worming only those adult animals that actually need it.  Leaving some unwormed will help keep a suceptible worm population.
