Casual (jeans?), Smart-casual (pencil skirt and tights, nice coat?), etc....

Can anyone tell me how people (females) dress for the CITY (shopping, etc...) in Melbourne??

Helpful answers greatly appreciated. I am flying down for a Winter weekend.

  1. Neat jeans or slacks would be acceptable. So would a neat dress or skirt with a nice top. It will most likely be a maximum of 15 degrees (this weekend), so a jumper or cardigan would be needed. A nice coat if you wish. There are no major hills, but sensible flat shoes (or low heels) or even sand-shoes would be advisable.

I am an old codger who has spent a lot of time in Asia (the more restrictive countries) so I like to see young women wearing jeans etc that are not too tight, but neat and comfortable and for them to wear shoes that will not strain their legs or ruin their backs.

  2. Us Melbournians tend to dress up a fair bit for everything, but not always expensive stuff, thats a common misconception.

Skinny jeans, a top &a cute cardi with a trench could be lovely.

    Pencil skirt should be fine.

Be warned, its very cold here. And often very windy, i hate winter here haha but i know lots that love it, so see how you feel. A good coat is essential &scarves and maybe beanies would be preffered.

    Have fun.

    Amber.

  3. how old are you??

melbourne is a very stylish place though

    jeans should be fine

  4. There is no dress code as such, obviously you will be charged with indecent exposure if you have your private parts (nipples, labia, buttocks) showing.

Since it is quite cold here this time of year, between 10 and 20 degrees Celsius, the most common thing for a female to wear in the city during the day is a nice pair of jeans, a nice top, a jacket and a cute pair of pixie heals or ballet flats.

    Hope this helps

  5. Depends How old you are!

If you're 5 you can wear your PJ's and no one cares and if you're 100 you can wear the same but if you're in between wear casual jeans and a Nice Coat or Jacket (it gets cold)
