I'm looking for a dress for my Prom, and I'm going to Paris in Early April, and I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas of places to buy one?

  1. Honestly the French do not have proms as in the US . But depending on your budget you could check a few designers although pretty pricy when not in sale.

Monique Germain (59 Bld Raspail in the 6th does tailor made evening gowns and corsets but very costly.

Rilifane is right to recommend the Bon Marche it is my favourite store and has an excellent choice of designers etc if budget not a problem go straight to avenue Montaigne where you will find Vuitton, Nina Ricci, Dior Chanel etc

  2. Well, you're certainly going to the right place to buy a dress!

You have a huge variety of choices although the haute couture salons are probably way out of the price range of anyone who'd be asking a question here (if you were that rich you'd have a personal shopper on your staff already).

Check out the big department stores:

    Bon Marche Rive Gauche

24, rue de Sèvres 75007 PARIS

    Metro : Sèvres Babylone

    Galeries LaFayette

    40, boulevard Haussmann 75009 PARIS

Metro : Chaussée d'Antin La Fayette

    Printemps Haussmann

    64, boulevard Haussmann 75009 PARIS

    Metro : Havre Caumartin

If you walk down the Blvd. St. Michel you'll see a lot of places patronized by the student population of the Left Bank. Theres also a lot of little shops tucked away on the side streets south and of the blvd St. Germaine (and on the street itself).

For real bargain hunting check out the French version of an outlet mall. Its called La Vallee Village 3, cours de la Garonne in the suburb of Val d'Europe. There is a website describing it at: http://www.lavalleevillage.com/lavallee/...

You get there either on the train line, RER A to the Serris-Montévrain-Val d'Europe stop.

There is also a cityrama shuttle bus every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday which leaves from the Cityrama agency, place des Pyramides, at 10:15 am and returns to Paris at approximately 5:00pm. The cost is 15 euros but you have to reserve a place the day before at the Cityrama office (or your hotel may be able to do it for you).
