  1. i would start by talking to your daughter about your background. where is your family from? my family's from all over, but i have a good bit of irish. my parents also are adopting a baby from china (i'm an adult with my own child). so the two countries my 7 year old are most interested in are china and ireland. my daughter's name is irish, too. that might also be a good idea. look up the background of your daughter's name.

i bet she would love it if you guys searched her name meaning on the internet. then maybe she can research a little bit about the main language/country her name comes from and find a recipe from that country. the more you involve your daughter in the process, the more excited she'll be about getting into the project. she's old enough to search on the internet. you can even research how people from that country dress when you look up information on her name and a recipe.

and i bet all this wouldn't take more than 30 minutes, tops. so you could make it meaningful by going with her name as a background, work together to look up information and your daughter will have so much fun! i wish they were doing something like this at my 7 year old daughter's school. this sounds like a blast!

  2. I know this really great Puerto Rican recipe:

    Arañitas:

    Ingredients:

    Plantains

    A skillet

    A little bit of oil

    Some salt

    A grater

    1. Grate the plantains and make the gratings into small patties.

    2. Salt the patties lightly

    3. Fry them in the oil with the skillet until they are golden brown.

This is one of my favorite foods!  It tastes kind of like tater tots with just a light sweet hint of plantains (they're like bananas).  Mi Abuelita made these for my sister and me as kids.  For the outfit.... you could get a shirt with a Puerto Rican Flag printed on it.
