  1. Here is one for dressage.  The art of giving and taking, is in the giving, not in the taking.

  2. " For what a horse does under constraint, as Simon says, he does without understanding, and with no more grace than a dancer would show if he was whipped and goaded.  Under such treatment horse and man alike will do much more that is ugly than graceful.  No, a horse must make the most graceful and brilliant appearance in all respects of his own will with the help of aids " - Xenophon (c.431 - c.355 B.C)

  3. who is the "they" who say dressage is easy?

Xenophon, The Art of Horsemanship, 4th century B.C.:

”So when he is induced by a man to assume all the airs and graces which he puts on of himself when he is showing off voluntarily, the result is a horse that likes to be ridden, that presents a magnificent sight, that looks alert, that is the observed of all observers.”

Leonardo da Vinci: "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication."

Isabell Werth: "we try to find the right key for every horse. Not to take one key, or one way of riding, for every horse. Horses have different personalities and different movement, you have to find a way for every horse."

  4. Who says its boring?!

I love watching dressage! It never ceases to amaze me how the horses do that, its amazing to watch!

  5. "Dressage horses are the ballet dancers of the equine world!  Finely tuned and a joy to behold!".

  6. Yea! LOL!

Good line use that becuase I'd love to see people trying a double piaffe.

It hurts when you fall off a 19.2hh too! LOL!

  7. As Dressage instructors, our job is to help the rider learn to sit and ride so as best to allow the horse to do his job with the least inerference" ~George Slusher

Success will only come to the dressage rider who wins the friendship of his/her four-legged partner and turns him into a ally"~ALois Podhajsky

  8. My favorite quote comes from "Sylvester", the movie.  Melissa Gilbert's character describes Richard Farnsworth's character when watching him work her horse as "Dancing in the GD moonlight!"
