For my project, I choose Kristi Yamaguchi, and I need a costume. Can someone give me ideas for a costume?

Like for the hair, dress, shoes/skates.

  1. If you don't want to buy a skating dress, wear a mini skirt and a tight spaghetti string top, and tights if you have them. Also do your hair in a bun, if it is long enough.

I hope you get an A on your project. :)

  2. NEVER do a bun!!! it's so conformist figure skating, curls (ringlets) are very wild. they work well and my coach loves them but you could try a french braid, or a french twist. and if you really want a real dress check a thrift store or buy a cheap on off of ebay or craigs list, the skates are easy you could just get some old hand me downs from the thirft store or ask a relative if they have any. or maybe you have a friend who skates and maybe they'll let you borrow an old pair of theirs or their skates.

    good luck on the project

  3. Do you want to dress like a figure skater or specifically Kristi Yamaguchi?

Kristi Yamaguchi used to mainly wear her hair in a ponytail with her bangs kinda poofed up:

As in the pics above, this is what she wore when she won the Gold at the Olympics in 1992.

You can probably put together a similar one cheaply.  Wear a black leotard (or black one piece swim suit if you have one - no one will notice), get a cheap pull on dance skirt like this one http://www.allaboutdance.com/s.nl/it.A/i... or get some sheer fabric and just wrap it around you like a short skirt.  The top you can find a gawdy blazer at some thrift shop for cheap!!

BUT Kristi has worn so many different dresses and dress types - especially in her pro years . . . so any style would be fine (as long as your audience gets the idea it's a figure skating dress).  A leotard or solid one piece swimsuit with a matching short skirt would be fine . . . add on some rhinestones for the glittery effect!  Here are pics of some of the stuff she's worn http://images.google.com/images?um=1&hl=...

HA!  You can wear a gold medal - hee hee!  You can find those at any party shop!!

Do you have rollerblades and are you fairly good at it?  That'd be cool if you could skate - especially it's for a presentation.  You can cover your skates with a white material (do you know anyone who can sew?) to make roller blade covers (ice skate boot covers won't fit).  Don't do it to show tricks . . . it's just to get the idea of "skating".   Oh and you can get away with regular dance nude tights (cheaper!).

Anyway, just throwing some ideas at ya!  Good luck!

  4. If you're dressing like Kristi Yamaguchi, which style of hers are you going for?  Her Olympic look or her professional career?  Dressing like her as she appeared in the Olympics might be easiest.  Her hair was in a ponytail with a gold colored bow and she had the early-90's bangs going on....that we all had and (her included) wish we could forget!  Maybe just wear a plain black skating dress....you can get some cheap ones on eBay....and a pair of tights.  Her skates were Harlicks, which you probably won't find a pair of those cheap anywhere.  Maybe just stick with a pair of white shoes.  Good luck -- love your topic!
