Dressing-room atmosphere is crucial for a team’s success, says Jonathan Trott – Cricket News Update
Jonathan Trott, the England batsman, believes that dressing-room atmosphere is absolutely crucial for a team’s success at the ultimate stage of the game and is delighted to have Kevin Pietersen back in the Test squad.
Pietersen was excluded from the England team for the third and final Test of the all-important series against South Africa earlier this year, following his controversial text-messages to some of the opposition players, Dale Steyn and AB de Villiers, allegedly making fun of a couple of his teammates, including the then captain, Andrew Strauss.
The hard-hitting batsman also missed the ICC World T20 2012 in Sri Lanka, where the Poms failed to defend their title and were thrashed out of the tournament during the Super 8 stage.
Strauss’ retirement from competitive cricket has paved the way for Pietersen’s return to international cricket as he is a part of the England side for the on-going tour of India, which officially commences from November 15, with the first Test at Ahmedabad.
While commenting about the whole controversy, Trott, who has been an integral part of the England team over the last three years, admitted that it hurt the morale of the side but maintains that he just focuses on the game all the time.
“I think a few players got sucked in,” Trott said. “I play the game for cricket, not for any other sort of agenda. So anything that doesn't involve me directly or the actual cricket I play I'm not interested in.”
The top-order batsman is happy that Pietersen is back in the side and expects him to play a huge role for England in the upcoming series against the Men in Blue. Trott wants his team to concentrate on team-spirit and be united to achieve success for their country.
He mentioned, “I'm a very firm believer in harmony in the dressing-room and people pulling their weight and going and doing things the right way. I've my own ideas and Kevin and I have always got on fine. I think he's a fantastic player and it's great to have him back playing and committed to playing cricket for England again.”
