Drew Pomeranz sparks as Colorado Rockies rout Cincinnati Reds 4-1 - MLB Update
Colorado Rockies’ starter, Drew Pomeranz had a notable day with the ball as he threw five innings and had two strike-outs in the Rockies’ 4-1 victory against the Cincinnati Reds at Coors Field, Colorado on September 11.
First three innings remained empty for both teams as the batters looked powerless against the curveballs. In the first inning, Drew Stubbs struck-out, Edgar Renteria popped out and Joey Votto flied out without contributing runs. Similarly, Dexter Fowler
walked at the bottom of first inning but Seth Smith and Jordan Pacheco both grounded out to pitcher while Eric Young Jr. fouled out without scoring runs.
Stubbs walked and Edinson Volquez sacrificed to third base during third inning but Stubbs got out to second base when Renteria hit a grounder into double play, short-stop to first base and first to second base. On the other hand, Fowler walked at the bottom
of third inning but Pacheco ground out to short-stop position without adding runs.
Rockies scored their initial run in the fourth inning to get a 1-0 lead when Ty Wigginton struck a one-run homer (397 feet) towards left-field. At the bottom of fifth inning, Rockies led off 2-0 when Pacheco drove a single-run shot to centre-field and Young
Jr. contributed one run. In the seventh inning, Rockies advanced their lead 4-0 by scoring two quick runs.
Young Jr. contributed one run when Fowler moved to second base on passed ball by Ramon Hernandez. The second run for Rockies was taken by Fowler when Kevin Kouzmanoff was ground out to second base and Smith occupied third base to end the seventh inning.
Pomeranz surrendered just two walks and two hits on his 63 pitches. Speaking to reporters, he said, “I try not to think about that when I'm on the mound. Mentally, I took it as any other game.”
Rockies’ manager, Jim Tracy said, “That's how much he jumped out at me. I see a very, very slow heartbeat. It's very encouraging to see.”
In the ninth inning, Votto homered (392 feet) towards right-field to reduce the Reds’ lead 4-1. However, Rockies won the three-game series 2-1 after having a comfortable victory in a series decider.
