Drew Stubbs makes a quality start after his stint on DL – MLB News
The Cincinnati Reds' manager Dusty Baker on Tuesday, June 26, expressed his satisfaction with the appreciable performance of Drew Stubbs. The centre fielder appeared in Tuesday’s series-opener against the Milwaukee Brewers after his over two-week stint on the disabled list.
Stubbs who was suffering from strained oblique muscle demonstrated quality performance in the game. While all eyes were set on his powerful hits, his manoeuvrings in centre-field was a treat to watch for many.
His slide into second for a stolen base (which came in the eighth inning of the game), in particular, was impressive. That effectively manifested the form, force and fitness of the player whose return was eagerly anticipated.
Not only did the Cincinnati Reds win the game 3-1, they were also visibly pleased with the performance of Drew Stubbs. While the focus of the game was to overwhelm the Brewers, all eyes were on Stubbs as something that the manager Dusty Baker admitted himself.
"We were really paying attention to him because he was contorted and twisted at second base trying to stay on the bag," Reds' manager Dusty Baker said. "It looks like he came out of that OK. He took some real hard swings, too, he threw the ball and was running great. We're still going to have to monitor him some."
It is now unknown whether the centre-fielder will make three consecutive appearance in the series. However, there is a predominant likelihood of Stubbs being in action in the second game scheduled for Wednesday.
Stubbs, on the other hand, had a few questions to answer, which he convincingly did. He was confident about his fitness.
“I think I've given [the injury] a good test over the last four or five days, and I've gotten a lot of questions about that one play," said Stubbs. “I feel as good today as I felt yesterday, and hopefully it'll continue to be that way for me."
Once the second game kicks off on Wednesday, where Stubbs will have his another start, it will be clear how satisfactorily he has regained his fitness and form.
