Question:

Dried Apricots - Are They OK

by  |  earlier

I'm sitting here eating Whole Turkish Dried Apricots. My mom says they're good for me, but on the bag it says that they're treated with sulfur dioxide to retain color and nutritional color. Does the sulfur dioxide add more calories? And are these dried apricots high in calories? They're from SweetEnergy.

  1. sulfur dioxide = bad for you.

natural dried (organic) apricots are not bright orange in colour (some are almost fluorescent in brightness). They are a dull dark orange/brown colour.

  2. no sulfur dioxide doesn't add any more calories, but in some people they have an allergic reaction of an increased heartrate.

  3. No, I don't think SO2 would add too many calories or alter the nutrition of the apricots in any significant way.

  4. Your mom is right, dried apricots are good for you.

  5. No, it doesn't add calories. I have asthma and avoid the sulphur dried versions as they make me wheeze but overall, they are fine.

  6. If you have the package, surely it says calorie counts per serving on it.  And you get more sulfure dioxide walking across the street in a normal city.
