Dried garlic-- can I put it back in the ground?

I received several dozen garlic plants (bulbs, stalks, leaves intact) and am wondering if I can put them back in the ground. Several reasons for this-- my Scottish heritage doesn't allow too much garlic in me, My wife LOVES garlic and if I can put it back in the ground She won't eat it all at once. The plants seem completely dry, still dirt on the roots.

  1. each clove you break off and plant will produce another head of garlic.twist the clove 3/4 into the soil, pointy end up, water ,  and hey presto your away.dont worry about them being dry.best of luck. i enjoy growing organic purple garlic and giant russian garlic which is very mild.

  2. yes you can but break it in to individual cloves and replant. we always hold a few garlic back each year just for this purpose. good luck
