Drill heads the 10 horse field in the Grade 3 Delta Downs Jackpot to be held on 19 November
The Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity winner, Drill, looks to make his trip from California to Louisville worthwhile in the Grade 3 $1 million Delta Downs Jackpot when he led a trio of runners down to Delta Downs from Southern California.
The 2-year-old Bob Baffert trained colt will carry a top weight of 122 pounds with Martin Garcia aboard, and the pair will break from post number six in the field of 10 juvenile runners on the dirt track at about 1 1/16 miles on 19 November, 2011.
With the season coming to an end, these 2-year-old horses and their connections have a lot to look forward to for the next year. Turning 3 next year, the season’s last gasps will provide these runners the opportunity to earn much and come into a decent rhythm
before the all important spring/summer Triple Crown season.
The Kentucky bred son of Lawyer Ron, out of mare Cat Dancer by Storm Cat, Drill has been declared as the 2 to 1 morning line favourite to win the Delta Downs Jackpot.
It has been Drill’s consistent performance in his juvenile career that has given him such importance over other contestants for the race. Other California shippers include the Golden Gate Fields based Longview Drive who is trained by Jerry Hollendorfer.
Longview Drive himself is in great nick and he comes across as a runner who has great feet, and will bother his rivals down at Delta Downs, especially winning his last 3 starts for Jerry Hollendorfer.
The third and the last Californian to be on the field will be Basmati, who was alongside Drill in the Grade 1 Norfolk Stakes, but managed a fourth place finish on the day. The colt is coming off a maiden special weight win in his last start.
Runners from Churchill Downs consist of Jake Mo and Laura’s Rocket, both these runners are two time winners , as Seven Lively Sins comes into the race with a Grade 3 runner up position in the Grade 3 Iroquois Stakes.
Kelly Breen trainer My Adonis is the dark horse in the field of 10, and he is capable of posing a real threat to Drill’s chances of winning the race.
