Question:

Drilled post hole rock right in middle?

Its a big rock I treid using a jack hammer Nothing, Can I dig the hole bigger to get this rock out? 2 Can I then put a suana tube and gravel around the tube to hold it tight? 3will it shift if the hole is bigger then it usally is?

  1. Depending on what you are building, I would go ahead and sink your sonotube down right on top of the rock. You can't ask for a better footing than solid rock.

    If it is for a deck I would say you will not have a problem.

    Brace your sonotube with 2" x4" braces if it sticks out of the ground very high. You can s***w right through it into your 2"x4" braces.


  2. Depends on what the Sonotube will be supporting. If it is supporting only a vertical load, backfilling around the tube with stone and tamping it down well, should not be a problem. If Sonotube is supporting any type of lateral load, your plan won't work. You could find out how big the rock is before digging by probing with a piece of rebar.
