Do you know of any putting drills that will help me sink in putts from 10-2 feet?

  1. Get 10 tees.  Put a tee down one foot from the hole, then put another tee one foot from the first tee, then put a third tee one foot back from the second tee and so on until you have ten tees straight back from a hole.  (It is best to do this drill on a flat surface).  Then take five balls out of your bag.  You have to make all five balls from each tee and if you miss one, start over.  Don't cheat yourself by giving yourself a break.  When I first did this it took me three hours to complete.  Now it takes me about 30-45 minutes and I have a maximum of 25 putts per round.  Be patient with it, but it works!  I have no worry when I get to the green.

  2. There are an infinite number of drills to help you with the shorter putts.  But it doesn't matter which one you use, in the end they all involve hitting hundreds of putts from ten feet in.  So the simple answer is just practice them a lot.

  3. 2 footers:  aim at the center of the hole and hit it very firm to eliminate the break.   Will also work with longer putts once you have the confidence.

5-10 foot putts:  total commitment to line and very solid fundamentals.    One drill I do is to putt only one ball.   If you sit at one spot and just 'copy' a stroke, you will not improve.  Pick one hole on the practice green and put 50 times from a different spot each time.

  4. There is one way to do this.  It has to be in your mind that you can make them and will.  Golf is 80% mental after all.  A good practice technique to use is to start at about 3 feet, and place 5  balls around the cup.   Putt from here until you make all five balls.  Then move to 5 feet and so on.  I had a confidence problem like this for years, and this drill has helped.  I still do it before every round.  Remember, beleive you can make those putts!

  5. Well, heres what i do. ANY distance, this works with. all you do is take your putter and stare at the hole, once you have your idea of the lie. stare at it, then start stroking, (all the while stareing at it). this gives you a feel for the right distance and stroke speed. this is also good for chipping. once you develop this, listen to the others on their drills, for i feel those help more with my consistency and lie-reading. not full prof, but it helps me.

    good luck

  6. the Circle Drill:

lay out as many balls as you want around the hole.  You can vary the distance, but you don't have to.

Go through your preshot routine everytime you step up to a ball.  If you have, for example 8 balls laid out, you have to make 8 in a row, or else you start all over.  It'll show that if you have a consistent routine, you can "get in the zone" and tune out distractions, helpping your focus.

    tee drill:

Set up three tees, two slightly wider than your putter head, and one behind your putter, however far you take it back to make a "routine" 10-footer.  This will help with alignment, and it'll show you that you need less swing, but more swingspeed, to make it to the cup.
