Ok, I think I have the dumbest parents on the planet. My dad had like 5 or 7 beers and he was pretty drunk, and my mom had like who knows ( which means a lot!), and he drove home, I can't drive yet because I'm 15, if i could i would. How can i convince them that drinking and driving, even buzz driving is a serious issue.... I tried to explain to them, but they try to justify it and they won't listen to me because I'm a kid HELP!! Thank you.

  1. TELL THEM WHAT'S MORE IMPORTANT...YOU OR DRINKING

    CALL A FAMILY MEMBER....

TELL THEM YOU WILL CALL POLICE FOR CHILD ENDANGERMENT

  2. What they probably don't understand is that it only takes 4 beers for a male to reach 0.08 and only 3 for a female.

Some people are quite capable of driving safely at 0.10 but this is beside the point.  The point is that if you are over 0.08 at the time when you are breath tested by a random breath testing unit you will be charged and in most cases you will lose your licence for 3 months for a first offence.

If your parents are regular drinkers it will only be a matter of time before they are caught and charged for exceeding 0.08.  In a lot of places the limit is only 0.05 and that will be reached after 3 beers by a male and 2 beers by a female.

  3. The first thing I would suggest is make sure they are completely sober when you raise an objection.

Make sure before you begin that they are aware that you feel very strongly. Get them to sit down with you without distractions (TV etc.)

Be calm, don't shout and jump up and down.

If you have a young relative (or even use yourself as an example)

Ask them how they would feel if someone drink driving killed you.

Ask them if they would accept the excuses they give as to why it is ok.

Ask them if they would be willing to give those excuses to the parent of a child killed by a drink driver.

Tell them that you are worried about their safety and that you feel a little ashamed of them for what they are doing.

By doing this calmly and deliberately they will not be able to ignore it or dismiss you. They ultimately choose not to change their behaviour but they will be forced to evaluate it.

Good luck and well done to you for having more sense than your parents.

  4. Talk to the police.  They are doing something very wrong.  It is not good for you if they do that because you can get into an accident.  Also, you can take buses.  Even though they are your parents, get them arrested for drunk driving.  And as for you, you should get a roommate that does not drink.

  5. Tell them the next time they do that, you're gonna call the cops on them. If it's not a serious issue or not really "drunk" then they have nothing to worry about right?

  6. i go through this all the time with my dad. my mom can't go out and stuff because she is having chemo because of colon cancer right now. my dad came home so drunk today and he drove. it really bothers both of us but he can't seem to understand or something.

he gets really defensive and doesn't want to hear it because deep down he knows he has an alcohol issue but doesn't want to look at it or face it. he thinks since we have a nice house, cars, etc that he doesn't have a problem.

i am even in recovery..which means, i have addiction issues and was addicted and now i go to classes to help me not use and i haven't drank or done any drugs in over a year.

even with everything i have gone through, i still cannot convince my dad to not drink and drive and to not drink around me. it really bothers me and i am concerned for his safety and everyone else on the road's safety.

it sucks but you can't convince him of anything. all you can do is try to accept that you cannot control your parents actions or anyone else's for that matter. all you can do is control your reactions.

my only suggestion is that maybe one day when they are not drinking at all, you sit down and tell them that you are concerned for their safety and you are not comfortable in a car when they are drinking and driving and how dangerous it is and how anything can happen and no one is immune to consequences.

    good luck!
